Support and manual

Everything about using the KT-Control app: logging in, opening, managing users, schedules and the event log. Can't figure it out? Feel free to get in touch.

1. Getting started

KT-Control is a web app. You don't need to download anything from the App Store or Play Store. Open control.ketelaar.app in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer and log in with the details you received from your administrator or installer.

After logging in you see the installations you have access to, for example a gate, barrier or door. Which installations and buttons you see depends on your role and the permissions the administrator has given you.

2. Adding the app to your home screen

Add KT-Control to the home screen of your phone. Then you open it with one tap, just like a regular app, and you can receive push notifications.

iPhone and iPad (Safari)

  1. Open control.ketelaar.app in Safari.
  2. Tap the share button (the square with the arrow pointing up).
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen and tap Add.

Android (Chrome)

  1. Open control.ketelaar.app in Chrome.
  2. Tap the menu with the three dots at the top right.
  3. Choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

On an iPhone, push notifications only work when the app is on the home screen and you open it from there.

3. Opening and operating

Choose the installation and tap the button of the output you want to operate, for example Gate or Barrier. Depending on the setting, the button gives a short pulse (like a remote control) or switches the output on or off.

The command goes straight to the module. You see the status in the app and the action is recorded in the event log.

4. Opening by calling or SMS

With a 4G module you can also open without the app:

  • Calling: call the phone number of the module. The module recognises your number, opens and does not answer the call. So calling is free. Make sure caller ID is switched on.
  • SMS: operating by SMS is possible too, for example as a backup when the internet connection drops. Ask your administrator or installer for the right command for your installation.

Only phone numbers that have been added as users are recognised.

5. Managing users

As administrator you add and block users. For each user you set:

  • the phone number, for opening by calling and for recognition;
  • a PIN, where applicable;
  • which outputs the user may operate;
  • optionally a schedule, so the user only has access on certain days and at certain times.

A change goes straight to the module and is read back for verification. Has someone moved out or lost their phone? Block the user and that access stops working immediately.

You manage keypad codes and card reader cards remotely in the same way.

6. Schedules and holidays

With a weekly schedule an output opens and closes automatically, for example a gate that stays open during office hours. Public holidays and vacation days are taken into account automatically, so you don't have to set them yourself every year. A schedule can also be linked to a user, so they only have access within that schedule.

7. Event log and notifications

The event log shows live who did what and when: openings through the app, by calling or SMS, and messages from inputs such as a door contact or fault. With push notifications you get this straight on your phone. The app needs permission to send notifications; you give it the first time the app asks.

8. Roles and permissions

Everyone has a role per installation:

  • Administrator: manages users, schedules and settings of the installation.
  • Installer: configures the module and does the technical maintenance.
  • Operator: operates the installation and keeps the overview, for example a reception desk or gatekeeper.
  • User: operates the outputs they have permission for.

9. Not working?

  • The button does not respond: check that your phone has internet and refresh the app. Check the event log to see whether the command arrived.
  • Calling does not open: check that caller ID is switched on and that your phone number has been added as a user.
  • You don't see an installation: ask the administrator whether you have access to that installation and to the right output.
  • The module is offline: this can be caused by a power failure or poor mobile coverage. With a 4G module, calling or SMS often still works. Contact your installer or us.
  • No push notifications: check that notifications for the app are switched on in your phone's settings. On an iPhone the app must be on the home screen.

10. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to download an app from the App Store or Play Store?

No. KT-Control is a web app. You open it in your browser at control.ketelaar.app and can add it to your home screen, so it works like a regular app.

Does opening by calling cost money?

No. The module recognises your phone number, opens and does not answer the call. So there are no call charges.

Do I need a SIM card?

For the 4G module, yes: it works anywhere with mobile coverage. The WiFi module uses an existing WiFi network and needs no SIM card or subscription.

Does it still work if the internet connection drops?

With the 4G module you can still open by calling or by SMS. Operating through the app requires an internet connection.

Will a module fit my gate, barrier or door?

Usually, yes. The module switches through a volt-free contact, just like a push button or remote control, so it fits most operators. Not sure? Get in touch and we will take a look.

Can people without a smartphone get in too?

Yes. They can open by calling with an ordinary phone, or you connect a keypad or card reader. You manage codes and cards remotely.

How many users can I add?

A 4G module supports up to 1000 users. If you link multiple modules, you manage all users in one place.

Where is my data stored?

On our own servers in the Netherlands, on our own hardware. Read more in the privacy statement.
